Bandy Heritage Center to host lecture on Southern language

March 29, 2018

On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in Room 102 of Sequoya Hall on the campus of Dalton State College, the Bandy Heritage Center for Northwest Georgia will host: “Fixin’ to Gonna Not Be: A Light-Hearted Look at the History of Southern Colloquial Language” by humorist and educator Jerry Drye.  Southerners have a certain way of talking—and we love it.  Just because everyone cannot always understand what we are saying, does not mean we are not making total sense.  Jerry Drye will examine some of the sayings that define the unique culture, traditions, and charm of the South.  This program is free and open to all Dalton State College staff, students, faculty, and the general public.

Jerry Drye is an Associate Professor of Communications at Dalton State College and has performed stand-up comedy and motivational humor for many years.  Drye studies and performs humor and speaks fluent Southern having been born in Nashville and has lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia.  Prior to joining the faculty at Dalton State College in 2009 he was a lecturer at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.
