Bandy Heritage Center to host lecture on Southern humor

On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in Room 105 of the James E. Brown Center on the campus of Dalton State College, the Bandy Heritage Center will host “Giggles and Grits: Southern Humor from Will Rogers to Blue Collar Comedy” by humorist and educator Jerry Drye. Drye will examine the work of columnists and comics, wits and wags, actors and authors, jokers and jesters and others who practice the humor arts in speaking and/or writing. Some of the southern humorists included, but not limited to, are: Will Rogers, Lewis Grizzard, Appalachian storytellers, Jerry Clower, and the Blue Collar Comedy performers.

Jerry Drye is an Associate Professor of Communications at Dalton State College and has performed stand-up comedy and motivational humor for many years. Drye studies and performs humor and speaks fluent Southern having been born in Nashville and has lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia. Prior to joining the faculty of Dalton State College in 2009 he was a lecturer at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.
