Bandy Heritage Center adds new driving tour for Trail of Tears

December 15, 2016

The Bandy Heritage Center has added a new driving tour. This new tour traces the route of the removal forts constructed for the arrest and detention of Cherokee Indians prior to their forced removal west of the Mississippi River on the "Trail of Tears." This tour takes the viewer along the route of the forts constructed by Georgia militia troops in the spring of 1838. Although little physical evidence of the forts remain, the viewer will gain an appreciation of the hardships faced by the Cherokees during their trek to the newly designated Indian Territory. To follow the route of the removal forts click on the "Tours" section of the Bandy Center's homepage.
