Bandy Heritage Center Partners with Creative Arts Guild and Prater Mill Foundation to Present Catherine Evans Whitener Demonstration and Workshop Series in Heritage Arts

January 23, 2025

The Bandy Heritage Center for Northwest Georgia is proud to partner with the Creative Arts Guild and Prater Mill Foundation to present the Catherine Evans Whitener Demonstration and Workshop Series in Heritage Arts. This series seeks to commemorate the legacy of Catherine Evans Whitener—the founding mother of Northwest Georgia’s tufted textile industry—and similar major figures of the Appalachian Craft Revival by fostering the skills which made them famous among the next generation of learners and makers. Whether it is making pottery like Bill Gordy or candlewick tufting like Catherine Evans Whitener, the Catherine Evans Whitener Demonstration and Workshop Series will allow audiences and participants to experience the unique folkways and traditions which shaped the material and cultural stories of Northwest Georgia’s many communities.
